Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources is actively seeking a Peer Support Specialist for Changes Resource Center in Hattiesburg, MS.
The Peer Support Specialist position plays an important role in providing individualized support and guidance to assist with daily challenges for adults in Forrest County experiencing homelessness.
No on-call duties required with this position.
The ideal candidate would have previous experience working with the homeless and the ability to work independently to find resources for the persons served.
A Peer Support Specialist must be a current or former consumer or a parent of an individual who has received treatment for and self-identifies as a consumer of former mental health consumer.
This position plays a vital role in assisting consumers in the program by modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies based on prior experience; supporting consumers in advocating for themselves to obtain effective services; and helping them to monitor their progress.
Changes Resource Center is a grant funded initiative set up to provide essential needs and behavioral healthcare for individuals with mental illness experiencing homelessness.
Community Support Specialists work to obtain housing for individuals seeking assistance on a housing first philosophy and collaborate with team members to provide therapy based on individual needs.

Our eighteen county service area includes Amite, Franklin, Forrest, Hancock, Harrison, Jones, Lamar, Lawrence, Covington, Greene, Jeff Davis, Marion, Pearl River, Perry, Pike, Stone, Walthall, Wayne Counties.
Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required
DMH Certified Peer Support Specialist Preferred or may apply for certification at https://www.

Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record
Reliable transportation needed to provide services in the community
Must have auto insurance with liability limits of 100,000/300,000/50,000 within 30 days of hire
Knowledge of how to establish and sustain self-help (mutual support) and educational groups by soliciting input from the mental health consumers on their strengths and interests
Must have demonstrated a minimum of six (6) months, preferably twelve (12) months, in self-directed recovery
Advocates for consumers by providing the person served information in terms that individuals and families can understand through various formal and informal settings.
Assists with targeted outreach, medication monitoring, system navigation, and advocacy.
Engages families and individuals to help them/loved ones to be successful and meet their goals.
Functions as a role model to peers by exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills.
Provides a range of structured activities that are provided face to face to assist individuals in their recovery/resiliency process.
These activities will support the goals of the individual's documented individual Service Plan and/or Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP).
May provide transportation for participants in personal vehicle.
This position will also have some administrative duties for the program.
