The School of Education at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) invites applicants for one full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position beginning August 2024 with requirements to be physically present on campus.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a large and diverse school that is home to approximately 1,200 students in six program areas: 1) Elementary Education, 2) Special Education, 3) Secondary Alternate Route, 4) Higher Education Administration, 5) Educational Administration, and 6) Educational Research.
Our faculty have established records of scholarship in the areas of leadership development, conflict management, and school board and superintendent relations.
The graduate program faculty currently provide training with concentration in K-12 building and district level administration.
The research area of specialization for this position is open, though we are especially interested in candidates whose training backgrounds include analysis of P-12 achievement data, educating diverse learning populations, community/stakeholder relations, and developing operational best practices for school leaders.
We aim to recruit applicants who will produce impactful research, and who will emphasize training doctoral students to become productive and thoughtful researchers and practitioners.
The School of Education’s Educational Administration programs include a Master of Education degree, an Education Specialist degree, a Doctor of Education degree, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree and includes face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
Qualified applicants will be prepared to contribute to the research and teaching mission of the School of Education at the graduate level.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities 1.
Developing strong independent research program.
2.
Seeking external funding.
3.
Teaching and mentoring students across programs.
4.
Contributing to the mission of the university and profession through service activities.
5.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Doctoral degree in Educational Administration or Educational Leadership (by August 2024).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities · Experience and/or familiarity with P-12 Leadership theory or research associated with building/district level leadership.
· Experience and/or familiarity with basic business principals governing P-12 operations.
· Experience and/or familiarity with laws governing P-12 operations.
· Demonstrates the ability to deliver accurate, concise and quality communication (verbal and written) in a timely manner to a diverse population.
· Experience setting clear performance expectations and provision of meaningful feedback.
· Experience and/or familiarity with technology use, particularly in the online learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching within Educational Administration at the university level.
Active principal and/or superintendent license.
Experience in P-12 administration at the district level.
