This 9-month, tenure-track faculty position instructs BFA/MFA theatre students and serves as Technical Director.
The department is fully NAST accredited, and includes BA, BFA and MFA programs housed in a fully equipped multi-theatre complex with shops.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as technical director for all Theatre productions during the academic year.
Teach advanced and graduate coursework in stagecraft.
Teach in other areas depending on faculty expertise.
Advise theatre majors.
Engage in program and school recruitment and service activity.
Create a record of recognized creative/scholarly work and develop a body of work in their field of expertise suitable for tenure and promotion.
Stay engaged with the wider field with regard to current developments in technical theatre and best practices, including safety.
Additional summer work with Southern Arena Theatre (SAT) may be available.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MFA in technical direction or closely related area.
Experience in computer aided drafting and theatre production technology.
At least one year teaching experience.
Good collaborative skills.
Ability to teach stagecraft.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty colleagues in design and performance and with scene shop staff.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Ability to use Computer Aided Drafting—Auto/Cad or Vector Works, Scenic Painting.
Ability to mentor skilled and unskilled student labor in the scene shop.
Ability to manage budget allocations and facilitate spending in compliance with University policies and procedures.
Experience setting clear performance expectations and providing meaningful feedback pertaining to safety and use of set for production.
Preferred Qualifications
Enjoy working closely with students of varying abilities and skills.
Knowledge of live streaming.
Knowledge of projections for productions.
