Job Summary: The Speech Language Pathologist shall be responsible for providing a full range of speech-language pathology services including assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions in an interdisciplinary environment consistent with the position’s qualifications, professional practices and ethical standards.
The incumbent shall also demonstrate accountability for and contribution to program development, quality improvement, and problem solving and productivity enhancement in a flexible interdisciplinary fashion.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
Performance Expectations: Demonstrates the ability to use critical thinking with patient evaluation and treatment planning Demonstrates compliant, secure, timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record Demonstrates understanding of the anatomy and physiology impacting vocal, auditory, memory, and swallow skills while utilizing age specific indicators as it relates to each related diagnosis and treatment approach Appropriately identifies learning needs of patients and family members Works as a team member to assist patient/family at all points of entry into the acute therapy care system and along the continuum of care Able to perform patient evaluations with use of appropriate functional tests/measures and demonstrates the ability to assimilate objective measures along with social factors, medical stability, activity restrictions, participation limitations or other relative comorbidities Able to determine functional deficits and construct appropriate goals, incorporating patient/family goals, establishing an appropriate frequency and duration appropriate to therapy diagnosis, plan of care, while remaining age appropriate Demonstrates the ability to tolerate physically demanding tasks including moving patients, equipment while maintaining safety for both self and patient per physical and environmental demands Conducts patient evaluation, treatment and corresponding professional behaviors within the scope of practice for this discipline This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive; the employee will also perform other reasonably related job duties as assigned Qualifications: Education/Skills The incumbent shall be a graduate of a Master level program in speech-language pathology which is either accredited by the Educational Standards Board or whose course work and practice meet ASHA certification requirements.
The incumbent shall possess current Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or be CCC eligible and hold current state license as applicable.
Education/experience serving people with physical disabilities is desirable.
Completes a minumum of 2 hours stroke education during annually.
Work Experience: Education/experience serving people with physical disabilities is desirable.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE Licensed to practice Speech Therapy in the State of Mississippi.
Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below Basic Life Support Within 30 Days of Employment Required Mental Demands: Must have ability to assess, plan, and coordinate patient care, be responsive to patient needs and demands, carry out orders accurately, demonstrate initiative, prioritize, have good communication skills, and ability to maintain rapport.
