The Nurse Practitioner shall be licensed in the State of Mississippi and must practice according to a Board approved protocol which has mutual agreement of and by a Mississippi licensed physician and the approval by the Board of Trustees.
The NP is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.
The NP works in the hospital and clinic setting under the direct supervision of an attending physician and reports directly to the Medical Director of Trauma and Operative Services.
Performance Expectations: Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the Emergency Department, inpatient, and operative settings.
Performs complete histories and physical examinations Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures Make referrals to appropriate ancillary services.
Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population Assist in the operating room Practice cost effective medicine in an efficient manner, maximizing available resources Discuss patient data with other physicians and professionals as appropriate in a multidisciplinary setting Demonstrate expert clinical judgment skills to function in an independent role Additional duties and responsibilities as required by the department Participates in departmental and organizational committees and programs as appropriate and attends all required meetings,in-services, and professional trainings Comply with 75% attendance expectation for quarterly Trauma Council Maintain superior interpersonaland communication skills as a member of the healthcare team in order to collaborate effectively with patients, families, staff, and community health workers Remains actively involved in continuing education with a commitment to self and departmental growth Adhere to established policies, procedures, and precautions Demonstrates understanding of procedures, policies, and documentation required to ensure compliance with hospital standards of care Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of patient information, and abide by established communication code Must utilize knowledge of growth and development in the care of children (pediatric), adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
Demonstrate knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.
Qualifications: Education/Skills Master Degree in Nursing with Family Practice, Adult Care, OR Acute Care focus required; Orthopedic experience preferred, First Assist preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) within one-month of hire.
Work Experience: Previous work experience as Family Practice, Adult Care, OR Acute Care preferred; previous work experience in Orthopedics preferred Certification/Licensure: Current license as an APRN by the Mississippi Board of Nursing required.
Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner and/or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) required.
Mental Demands: High degree of concentration, good interpersonal skills.
