_*1st Class Fitter Job Description*_ ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Works safely in an industrial environment and around machinery; observes and instructs others in proper equipment use.
Follows all safety rules and regulations as well as all company policies and procedures; uses/wears all required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for assigned tasks.
Ensures all work meets the guidelines and specifications of a first class fitter; including layout (comprehensive knowledge) and burning.
Reads, understands and works from drawings with minimal supervision with the ability to make simple modification drawings and complete work as necessary.
Completes all steel work needed to complete projects.
Performs first class welding in all positions with flux cord and stick.
Work includes set-up, laying out work using fixtures and guides to repair, modify, or fabricate parts and/or equipment products.
Keeps equipment operational by completing preventive maintenance requirement.
Assists with all aspects of construction to complete projects.
Requisitions materials needed to complete projects in accordance with DSC procedures.
Travels as required to customer sites to perform modifications and maintenance of equipment as needed.
Maintains level of work performance in accordance with DSC's standards and/or production deadline specifications with minimal supervision.
Meets all project deadlines; complete all assignments in a timely fashion to meet production deadlines.
Works overtime and/or weekends as requested.
Maintains confidentially of information.
Maintains a clean, safe and organized work area at all times.
Demonstrates leadership skills and sets positive examples for all manufacturing personnel.
Trains and evaluates others in your field and under your supervision.
Tack welding and some minor welding on an as needed basis.
Performs other duties as assigned.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK: Semi-routine; majority of work covered by established procedures.
RELATIONSHIPS OUTSIDE WORK UNIT: Exchange of information which occasionally requires tact and/or diplomacy.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is not a supervisory role, however it may be requested that the Fitter position oversees the training of new team members to DSC policies and production standards.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

REGULAR ATTENDANCE is required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school degree or GED.
1-3 years of applicable fitter experience in a similar industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENCES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver's license to operate company vehicle in addition to traveling on behalf of the company to customer sites.
Applicable certifications and training classes required for a 1 st Class Fitter.
Applicable certifications based on customer site requirements (as required).
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write simple correspondence and communicate on a regular basis with co-workers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be at least eighteen years of age.
Knowledge of rigging loads for cherry pircker and shop over-head hoist.
Job related knowledge of dredge, dredge equipment and deredge construction.

Willingness to travel as required.
Travel may be air, water or land based depending on the specific project.

Must be able to successfully pass all pre-employment testing (drug test, physical, audiogram, pulmonary function test, respiratory fit test) in addition to random drug and alcohol testing.
